 Cheryl McDonald, B.B.A.

Owner & Manager, Elite Cruise Counsellor, Luxury Cruise Specialist, Alaska Specialist

Cheryl & her husband's very first cruise was on the Sun Princess, an inside passage cruise to Alaska, on their honeymoon over 35 years ago.  Little did they know then how important cruising would become to them, nor did they imagine they would be the proud owners of a cruise specialty travel agency!  What they did discover was how much they LOVED cruising! Since then they've been on over 30 cruises, sailing to Norway, the Eastern, Western and Southern Caribbean, the Mexican Riviera, Alaska and Hawaii and on a river cruise through France on eleven different cruise lines so far.  They have passed this love of cruising on to their two grown sons who have each been on several different cruise lines as well.  In February, their first born grandchild experienced her first cruise at only 9 months of age!

Cheryl was thrilled when she was accepted as a host in the Travel Leaders "Distinctive Voyages" program.  These cruises provide guests who have booked with agencies belonging to the Travel Leaders Network (including Cruise Holidays of Lindsay) with a complimentary exclusive shore event and a welcome cocktail reception as well as the services and assistance of an on-board host.  Currently, Cheryl has registered for three hosting jobs:  Seabourn Quest sailing from Montreal to Eastern Canada in September; Celebrity Reflection sailing to Ireland & Iceland in June and Celebrity Constellation sailing from Venice to Athens in November 2020.

Cheryl's travels include:

  • A family 9-day cruise on Celebrity Silhouette to the Southern Caribbean including the "ABC" islands of Aruba, Bonaire & Curacao.
  • A week in London, England followed by a 7-night cruise on Cunard's Queen Mary 2 to the beautiful fjords and cities of Norway to celebrate a milestone birthday.
  • Royal Caribbean's Anthem of the Seas cruise out of New York to the Caribbean.  Cheryl had been waiting for awhile to check out this very different class of ship with bumper cars, iFly, extending observation pod, and other unique features.
  • Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas on a 10-night cruise from Newark to Quebec City, visiting three ports in Maine plus Halifax, Sydney & Cornerbrook on a Canada/New England cruise.
  • A family cruise on the Norwegian Getaway to the Western Caribbean to celebrate Robert's 60th birthday
  • A trip to New York City to celebrate Robert's retirement from the Toronto Fire Services, with a focus on 9/11 events & attractions
  • Her first all-inclusive stay -  4-night at Sandals, Halcyon Beach over Christmas.  While she enjoyed this relaxing break from the hustle & bustle of the holidays, it reinforced her passion for cruising and that nothing beats the feeling of being onboard a cruise.
  • A Cruise Holidays President's Circle cruise on Uniworld's S.S. Catherine sailing the Rhone & Saone rivers through the Burgundy & Provence regions of France.  Prior to the cruise she enjoyed a 4-night stay in Paris, crossing a trip up to the top of the Eiffel Tower off her bucket list.
  • Holland America cruise on the Veendam to Bermuda
  • An invitation-only inaugural cruise on Royal Princess, with a book signing event by Gavin MacLeod (Captain Stubbing from the "Love Boat")
  • Western  Caribbean on a family cruise on Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas
  • Escorting a group on a 10-day cruise on Celebrity Equinox to the Southern Caribbean to mark the store's 5th anniversary
  • An inaugural cruise on Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas (where they were filming the movie "Jack and Jill" onboard with Adam Sandler and Katie Holmes).
  • Norwegian Epic to the Caribbean
  • Luxury cruise on the Seabourn Legend to small ports in the Caribbean
  • Caribbean on Royal Caribbean's Radiance of the Seas
  • Norwegian Pearl to the Western Caribbean
  • An invitation-only inaugural cruise and naming ceremony on the Ruby Princess.  She has fond memories of Trista & Ryan Sutter (from the "Bachelorette" reality TV show) as godparents to the ship, pulling the lever to smash the champagne bottle!
  • Disney Magic to the Mexican Riviera with one son to celebrate her 50th birthday
  • All Inclusive luxury cruise on Regent Seven Seas Voyager for a Cruise Holidays convention
  • Celebrity's Mercury cruise up the Pacific Coast
  • Caribbean cruise on the Holland America Zuiderdam with friends and family
  • An Escorted 7-night cruise on the Caribbean Princess to the Eastern Caribbean, where Rob golfed a magnificent course in St. Thomas
  • A pre-cruise stay in Honolulu followed by a cruise on the Norwegian Pride of America around Hawaii to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary
  • Royal Caribbean cruise to the Caribbean on Freedom of the Seas
  • Royal Caribbean cruise to the Caribbean on Rhapsody of the Seas
  • A cruise with friends and family on Carnival Destiny to the Southern Caribbean
  • A Caribbean cruise on the Holland America Westerdam
  • Royal Caribbean cruise on Mariner of the Seas with friends and family to the Caribbean
  • Mexican Riviera Cruise on Carnival Elation
  • Southbound Alaska cruise from Whittier to Vancouver on the Sea Princess
  • A cruise on the Grand Princess to the Eastern Caribbean
  • Carnival Imagination cruise to the Caribbean
  • An Alaska "Inside Passage" cruise from Vancouver on the Sun Princess

In addition to her many cruises, Cheryl has toured many ships, including the Crystal Serenity and Silversea Silver Cloud (in Montreal), Cunard Queen Victoria (in Quebec City), and Oceania's Marina (in New York City).  She has also attended a cruising convention in Fort Lauderdale where she was able to tour several other ships, attend a trade show, seminars and panel discussions with cruise line executives.

Cheryl has many years experience in customer service and has worked in the travel industry as a Cruise Specialist since 2003. She has achieved the rank of Elite Cruise Counsellor and the designation of Luxury Cruise Specialist from the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). Requirements for each of the CLIA accreditation levels include successful completion of a series of courses, personal cruising experience, ship inspections and meeting sales levels.  She is also a Certified Alaska Cruise specialist.
