Cheryl McDonald, B.B.A.

Franchise Owner & Manager, Elite Cruise Counsellor, Luxury Cruise Specialist

Cheryl & her husband's very first cruise was on the Sun Princessan inside passage cruise to Alaska, on their honeymoon over 35 years ago.  Little did they know then how important cruising would become to them, nor did they imagine they would be the proud owners of a Cruise Holidays travel agency!  What they did discover was how much they LOVED cruising! Since then they've been on over 30 cruises, sailing to the Eastern, Western and Southern Caribbean, the Mexican Riviera, Alaska and Hawaii and a river cruise on ten different cruise lines.

Most recently, Cheryl & her husband sailed on Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas on a 10-night cruise from Newark to Quebec City, visiting three ports in Maine plus Halifax, Sydney & Cornerbrook on a Canada/New England cruise.  They had such a great time, back on Royal Caribbean, that while still onboard, they booked a cruise on Anthem of the Seas sailing next February from Newark to the Caribbean.  This is a very different class of ship (with iFly, bumper cars, and other unique features) that Cheryl has wanted to check out for awhile.

After a brief hiatus from the sea, Cheryl was excited to be back on the ocean in May 2015, sailing to Bermuda on the Holland America Veendam.  She had been grounded since her October 2013 cruise on the Royal Princess due to medical issues (knee).

She loved the Cruise Holidays President's Circle cruise on Uniworld's S.S. Catherine sailing the Rhone and Saone rivers through the Burgundy and Provence regions of France.  Prior to the cruise she enjoyed a 4-night stay in Paris, crossing a trip up to the top of the Eiffel Tour off her bucket list!

Cheryl had a great time on their long awaited family cruise in February on the Norwegian Getaway to celebrate her husband, Robert's 60th birthday!  The cruise sailed to the exotic western Caribbean including the ports of Belize, Roatan, Costa Maya and Cozumel.  She tried zip-lining (in Roatan) and Segways (in Costa Maya) for the first time.

Previously, she and her family thoroughly enjoyed their cruise on Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas in March 2013 to the Western Caribbean.  After an inaugural cruise on Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas in 2011 (where they were filming the movie "Jack and Jill" onboard with Adam Sandler and Katie Holmes), she knew that it was a class of ship that her 20-something children would love, and they did --- zip-lining, rock climbing, boogie boarding and surfing on the flo-rider, and taking in the vast variety of entertainment options and venues.

Cheryl's other cruises include escorting a group on a 10-day Southern Caribbean cruise in 2012 on the Celebrity Equinox to mark the store's 5th anniversary, a return to Alaska on a southbound cruise from Seward to Vancouver on the Sea Princess, a Hawaiian islands cruise on Norwegian's Pride of America to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary, and a milestone birthday cruise to the Mexican Riviera on the Disney Magic.  Caribbean cruises on Eastern, Western and Southern itineraries include the Norwegian Pearl & Norwegian Epic, the Holland America Zuiderdam & Holland America Westerdam,  the Grand Princess, Royal Caribbean's Rhapsody of the Seas, Freedom of the Seas & Mariner of the Seas, and the Carnival Imagination & Carnival Destiny.

Cheryl's small ship all-inclusive luxury cruise sailings include cruises on Regent Seven Seas Voyager and Seabourn's Legend

In addition to her many cruises, Cheryl has toured many ships, including the Crystal Serenity and Silversea Silver Cloud (in Montreal), Cunard Queen Victoria (in Quebec City), and Oceania's Marina (in New York City).  She has also attended a cruising convention in Fort Lauderdale where she was able to tour several other ships, attend a trade show, seminars and panel discussions with cruise line executives.

Her cruising highlights include an invitation in October 2013 to the North American inaugural cruise of the Royal Princess where she had a chance to meet and chat with Gavin MacLeod (aka Captain Stubing) at his onboard book signing event.  She also has special memories from the naming ceremony and inaugural cruise in November 2008 for their newest ship at that time, the Ruby Princess. Trista and Ryan Sutter (from the "Bachelorette" reality TV show) where on hand and as godparents to the ship, pulled the lever to smash the champagne bottle!

Cheryl also tried out her first all inclusive resort, with a 4 night stay at Sandals Halcyon Beach in St. Lucia over Christmas 2015.  While she enjoyed the relaxing stay there, it reinforced her passion for cruising and that for her, nothing beats that feeling stepping on board a cruise ship.

Cheryl has many years experience in customer service and has worked in the travel industry as a Cruise Specialist since 2003. She has achieved the rank of Elite Cruise Counsellor and the designation of Luxury Cruise Specialist from the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA). Requirements for each of the CLIA accreditation levels include successful completion of a series of courses, personal cruising experience, ship inspections and meeting sales levels.

In addition to her sales activities, Cheryl is also responsible for all aspects of managing the office, including accounting and marketing.
